Goblin

10 Feb 21 Goblin Valley

Wednesday 10 Feb 21.

I got up and let the dogs out. Wiggin and I went for a short hike. He is suffering from arthritis in his right front leg and has slowed down a lot the last couple of years. He still really likes to hike though. His fur is super long now and it is amazing how many chuckle burs, various weeds  and such get stuck in it. After we got back to the RT I fed him and Pete. I wasn't particular hungry and decided I would drive on to Goblin State Park before breakfast.

Once there I parked at the far side of the parking lot and cooked breakfast. I fried up a couple slices of ham, two eggs, some grits and a couple slices of toast. I recently bought a skillet like the one Mom had at a second hand store  and I used it to fried the ham and eggs. I used some olive oil but the eggs still stuck to the skillet. I will need to find a different skillet for frying eggs. I remember Mom coming Swiss Steak in her skillet. I will have to try that some time. Over the years I have found five pans and the skillet like the one Mom had. I assume she got them as a wedding present. My sister Janet has Mom's actual set.

After cleaning up the dishes I hiked down into the valley. From the RT I could see a white domed hill so climbing that was my objective. Once I had done that I hiked to the back side of the valley. The pillars at the backside become much tighter and taller until they become a solid wall. I walked through several canyons trying to find a way through but finally came to a closed canyon and had to backtrack a bit. I  ultimately made a loop back to the RT.

Back at the RT I drove to the campground for the night. I attempted a fire in the man-made fire pit but the wood I had brought was wet wouldn't burn well. There was one other camper there. I couple about my age in a pop-up  camper. That type of camper on a fourwheel drive pickup is good setup for this kind of country. It was that setup I had when Dad and I took out four wheeling trip to Canyonlands National Park. I had some amazing adventures in that truck.

Back at the RT I watched the second DVD of the 1900 series. This was from 1920-1940. After the DVD I called it a day and went to sleep.
